The queen of Erin put it on, and then the queen of Tubber Tintye said, “Tighten, belt!” The belt tightened till the queen of Erin screamed with pain. “Now tell me,” said the queen of Tubber Tintye, “who was the father of your elder son.”
“The gardener,” said the queen of Erin.
Again the queen of Tubber Tintye said (и снова королева Таббер Тинти сказала),

“The big brewer (старший пивовар; big – большой, крупный; brew – варка /пива/; to brew – варить /пиво/; brewer – пивовар),” said the queen of Erin.
Said the queen of Tubber Tintye to the king of Erin (и сказала королева Таббер Тинти королю Ирландии), “Get this woman dead (убей эту женщину; to get – получать, доставать; to get smb. into a state – приводить кого-л. в какое-л. состояние; killed – умерщвленный, лишенный жизни, убитый).”
“Now tell me who was the father of your second son.”
“The big brewer,” said the queen of Erin.
Said the queen of Tubber Tintye to the king of Erin, “Get this woman dead.”

“Now do you marry the queen of Lonesome Island (а теперь женись же на королеве Одинокого Острова), and my child will be grandchild to you and to her (и мой ребенок будет тебе и ей внуком),” said the queen of Tubber Tintye.
The king put down a big fire then, and when it was blazing high, he threw the wife in, and she was destroyed at once.
“Now do you marry the queen of Lonesome Island, and my child will be grandchild to you and to her,” said the queen of Tubber Tintye.
This was done (это было сделано = так он и поступил), and the queen of Lonesome Island became queen of Erin (и королева Одинокого Острова стала королевой Ирландии; to become /became, become/) and lived in the castle by the sea (и /стала/ жить в замке у моря). And the queen of Tubber Tintye married the prince of Lonesome Island (а королева Таббер Тинти вышла замуж за принца Одинокого Острова), the champion who entered the golden chamber (отважного воина, который вошел в золотую комнату; champion – поборник, защитник /чего-л./; /поэт./ отважный воин, витязь) while she slept (пока она спала; to sleep /slept/).
This was done, and the queen of Lonesome Island became queen of Erin and lived in the castle by the sea. And the queen of Tubber Tintye married the prince of Lonesome Island, the champion who entered the golden chamber while she slept.
Now the king of Erin sent ten ships with messages to all the kings of the world (тут же король Ирландии отправил десять кораблей с посланиями всем королям на свете: «мира»; to send /sent/), inviting them to come to the wedding of the queen of Tubber Tintye and his son (приглашая их приехать на свадьбу королевы Таббер Тинти и его сына; to invite), and to his own wedding with the queen of Lonesome Island (и на его собственную свадьбу с королевой Одинокого Острова).
Now the king of Erin sent ten ships with messages to all the kings of the world, inviting them to come to the wedding of the queen of Tubber Tintye and his son, and to his own wedding with the queen of Lonesome Island.

The Shee an Gannon and the Gruagach Gaire(Эльф Ганнона и Смеющийся Груагах[7])
The Shee an Gannon [the fairy of the Gannon] was born in the morning (Ши ан Ганнон [Эльф Ганонна; fairy – фея, волшебница; эльф] родился утром; to bear /bore, born/ – носить, переносить, перевозить; рождать, производить на свет), named at noon (получил имя в полдень; name – имя; to name – называть, давать имя), and went in the evening to ask his daughter of the king of Erin (и пошел вечером просить руки дочери короля Ирландии: «просить его дочь у короля Ирландии»; to ask – спрашивать; просить, требовать).
The Shee an Gannon [the fairy of the Gannon] was born in the morning, named at noon, and went in the evening to ask his daughter of the king of Erin.

I took the heads off them all when they came back without the tidings for which they went, and I’m greatly in dread that your head’ll be on the twelfth spike, for I’ll do the same to you that I did to the eleven kings’ sons unless you tell what put a stop to the laughing of the Gruagach.”
