С 1945 г. и по сегодняшний день появляются «проверенные» и «предположительные» сведения о бегстве в Аргентину после краха Третьего рейха лидеров Германии и нацистских военных преступников рангом пониже[454]. На берегах Ла — Платы «видели» и Гитлера, и Бормана, и шефа гестапо Мюллера. В джунглях Северной Аргентины (наиболее неосвоенная часть страны) с завидной регулярностью находят руины «секретных» нацистских поселений. Всё это плод воображения падких на сенсации журналистов, а также различных «краеведов» и «следопытов».
Но всё же дыма без огня не бывает. Попробуем отделить зёрна от плевел, опираясь на факты.
Аргентина в отличие от соседних Бразилии и Чили долгое время не была центром германской поселенческой колонизации в Латинской Америке. Только в 1843 г. немцы основали там свою Евангелическую церковь (Аргентина была и остаётся католической страной), а реальная более или менее массовая немецкоговорящая эмиграция относится к периоду после 1870 г.[455] Причём поначалу в Аргентину ехали немцы отнюдь не из Германии, а в основном поволжские немцы из России. Это было связано с курсом правительства Александра III на ассимиляцию немецких колонистов и на «привитие» им православия. А ведь в своё время в Россию немцы приезжали из различных германских государств именно потому, что им гарантировали на новой родине свободу вероисповедания.
