Тогда рассматриваемый конфликт еще не называли “Первой мировой войной”. Обычно речь шла о “мировой” или “Европейской” войне, позднее — о “Великой”. Название “Первая мировая война”, как считается, придумал военный корреспондент Times Чарльз Репингтон. Уже в сентябре 1918 года он понял, что характеристика конфликта, данная Г. Дж. Уэллсом — “Война, которая положит конец всем войнам”, — чересчур оптимистична.

При этом всю первую десятку составляли программы, не предававшие первыми. ОО выиграла пять из шести проведенных Аксельродом турниров, благодаря сочетанию “доброты, готовности к ответным мерам, готовности прощать и ясности тактики”.
