| "Men," said the fox. "They have guns, and they hunt. | - У людей есть ружья, и они ходят на охоту. |
| It is very disturbing. | Это очень неудобно! |
| They also raise chickens. | И ещё они разводят кур. |
| These are their only interests. | Только этим они и хороши. |
| Are you looking for chickens?" | Ты ищешь кур? |

| "I am looking for friends. | - Я ищу друзей. |
| What does that mean - 'tame'?" | А как это - приручить? |
| "It is an act too often neglected," said the fox. | - Это давно забытое понятие, - объяснил Лис. |
| "It means to establish ties." | - Оно означает: создать узы. |
| "'To establish ties'?" | - Узы? |
| "Just that," said the fox. | - Вот именно, - сказал Лис. |
| "To me, you are still nothing more than a little boy who is just like a hundred thousand other little boys. | - Ты для меня пока всего лишь маленький мальчик, точно такой же, как сто тысяч других мальчиков. |
| And I have no need of you. | И ты мне не нужен. |

| "It is possible," said the fox. | - Очень возможно, - согласился Лис. |
| "On the Earth one sees all sorts of things." | - На Земле чего только не бывает. |
| "Oh, but this is not on the Earth!" said the little prince. | - Это было не на Земле, - сказал Маленький принц. |

| "My life is very monotonous," the fox said. | - Скучная у меня жизнь. |
| "I hunt chickens; men hunt me. | Я охочусь за курами, а люди охотятся за мною. |
| All the chickens are just alike, and all the men are just alike. | Все куры одинаковы, и люди все одинаковы. |
| And, in consequence, I am a little bored. | И живется мне скучновато. |
| But if you tame me, it will be as if the sun came to shine on my life. | Но если ты меня приручишь, моя жизнь словно солнцем озарится. |
| I shall know the sound of a step that will be different from all the others. | Твои шаги я стану различать среди тысяч других. |
| Other steps send me hurrying back underneath the ground. | Заслышав людские шаги, я всегда убегаю и прячусь. |
